Just because you’re not a graphic designer doesn’t mean you can’t design awesome custom made tee shirts. Here are a few tips to help you through your creative process.
Keep the Big Picture in Mind.
When you’re designing customized shirts, you need to remember that you’re making a tee shirt first and foremost. That sounds kind of silly, but it’s easy to forget, especially when the point of the custom tees is to market your business or event. If you make the custom tee shirts thinking mainly how they’ll be used to market your business, you may inadvertently make a less-than-aesthetic design, which no one will want to wear. You need to make custom tees that people are going to want to wear, not custom tees that primarily market your business. If that means having to put your logo to the side, then so be it
Keep It Simple.
The simpler the design, the better. Minimalism is in. While complicated, detailed designs are certainly eye catching, it’s often times much better to just keep it keep it short, and keep it simple. If you use colors that compliment each other, legible fonts, and simple graphics, you run less of a risk of making a bad custom tee.
Try to Be Funny.
Everyone loves a good laugh, so if you can figure out a way to incorporate some humor into your design, then you might have a winner on your hands. Don’t force it, though. Good humor will make people want to wear the custom tee, while bad humor will turn people away.
Work With a Quality Printer.
You might have the best design of all time, but if you work with a cheap screen printer, you’re going to get shoddy shirts that no one would want to wear. Before choosing a screen printer, read some reviews of the company, and find out how long they’ve been in business. The more happy customers a printer has, and the longer they’ve been in business, the better.
