Having the right equipment for a workout is important, and the wrong clothing or pieces can actually get in the way of having a productive workout — or make you feel like you don’t want to do it again. Finding comfortable athletic clothing is important. Here are three of the most important tips for doing it, and what to look for when you’re shopping.

1. Fit
Of course, one of the biggest factors that play a role in how comfortable your work out clothes are is fit. Some women struggle to find the right fit for workout clothes because they don’t know how they should fit or they plan on losing a lot of weight. It’s important to always shop for the body you have rather than the body you want. You can always pick up a few more things later if you need to.

2. Fabric
Another important thing to look for when you’re buying comfortable athletic clothes is the fabric. In a survey, 69% of people said that they would pay more for athletic clothes that kept them dry and 69% said that they would pay more for clothing that has moisture absorption benefits. Sweat wicking clothing is effective for keeping you dry during a sweaty work out and helping you control your temperature.

3. Construction
Aside from fit and fabric, you also need to consider construction when you’re picking out your workout gear — look at how the article of clothing is made. Seamless tops and seamless leggings are a couple of popular choices, especially for slim fitting items. Since some types of work out clothes fit pretty tightly, seamless tops and leggings won’t dig into your skin or create discomfort.
