How to Come Up With a Great Team Name

The best parts of playing in beer league teams are the drinks, the fun times, the memories, and — of course — the cheap custom tee shirts you get to wear as a uniform. The ones that proudly bear your team’s logo and name.

Some people wind up wearing their custom team shirts whenever they’re doing chores, while others wear them all the time. Some, however, will wind up burying theirs in the back of the closet or donating their custom team shirts.

The difference between these two groups of people — those who keep their custom team shirts and those who get rid of them — is that the former group’s teams are worth remembering, while the latter’s are best left forgotten.

If you’d like your teammates to hold on to their custom team shirts and wear them out, then you need to come up with a great team name. Here are a few tips to help.

Puns.

The best team names are often the ones that are a play on the sport. For example, “Dodgefathers” would be a great team name for a dodgeball team; “One Kick Wonders” would be a great team name for a kickball team; and “Goal Diggers” could be a good name for a soccer team.

Movies.

If you’re in need of inspiration for a good team, look no further than to the stars… of Hollywood. Tons of great teams have based their names off of celebrities before, like the “Hat Trick Swayzes,” “The Mon-Stars,” or even something as simple as “The Avengers.”

Music.

Pop music is another great place to find inspiration for some funny team names. Just take the name of a song or artist, and play off of it. For example, some great kickball team names could be “Ace of Second Base,” “New Kicks on the Block,” “Fresh Prince of Ball Air.”

If you want to make truly great custom team shirts, you need a truly great custom team name to go on them. If you have any good ones, feel free to share them in the comments. Research more here.
